- 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 10-12 Tablespoons salted butter, thinly sliced
- ¼ cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the dump cake.
- Add Apple Pie Filling: Pour the entire 28-ounce can of apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish. For a thinner layer, use a 9×13-inch pan instead.
- Prepare Cake Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Stir until well mixed.
- Assemble Cake: Evenly sprinkle the cake mixture over the apple pie filling in the baking dish. Then, evenly place 10 to 12 tablespoons of thinly sliced salted butter over the cake mix. Optionally, sprinkle ¼ cup of chopped pecans on top for added texture and flavor.
- Bake: Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Notes
- Using Fresh Apples: Peel, core, and cut 3 fresh apples into ½-inch cubes. Mix with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar before using as the fruit base.
- Crockpot Method: Pour fruit into the bottom of a crockpot, sprinkle cake mix on top, add sliced butter, and cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours. If oven-safe, broil briefly to brown the top.
- Dutch Oven Camping Method: Line the Dutch oven with foil and spray with nonstick spray. Add the fruit then cake mix and sliced butter. Cover and cook on hot coals for about 30 minutes for an outdoor-friendly version.
