Ingredients
Scale
For the Apples
- Cooking Spray
- 4 Tbsp Melted Butter
- 1 Tbsp Packed Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 4 Apples (firm, crisp variety like Honeycrisp)
- 8 Chewy Caramel Squares
For Serving
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Caramel Sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) or your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the apples.
- Prepare Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, packed brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Core and Slice Apples: Slice the top off each apple. Use a corer to carefully remove the core, stopping before reaching the bottom to keep the apple intact. Place the apple cut-side down and make thin crosswise slices, making sure not to cut all the way through the bottom, creating a blooming effect.
- Stuff with Caramel: Insert two caramel squares into the hollow center of each prepared apple, filling the core cavity.
- Brush with Butter Mixture: Generously brush the melted butter-sugar-cinnamon mixture all over the tops of the apples and into the crevices between the slices to infuse flavor and aid caramelization.
- Bake or Air Fry: For oven baking, grease a baking dish and place the apples inside. Bake at 375°F for about 30 minutes or until tender. For air frying, place the apples in the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F for approximately 20 minutes until soft and caramelized.
- Serve: Remove the warm apples carefully and serve immediately topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce for an indulgent dessert experience.
Notes
- Use firm, crisp apples such as Honeycrisp to maintain shape during baking.
- Be careful not to slice through the apple base to keep the structure intact and allow them to bloom.
- You can adjust the cooking time depending on the size and ripeness of your apples.
- For extra indulgence, sprinkle a little sea salt on top before serving to complement the caramel flavors.
- If you don’t have caramel squares, soft caramel candies can be chopped and used as an alternative.
