This Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce recipe combines the tangy flavors of mustard and vinegar with a touch of sweetness and smokiness. Perfect for slathering on grilled meats or using as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp liquid smoke
  • 6 dashes hot sauce of your choice

Slurry:

  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp water (room temperature)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water for slurry. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, add all the sauce ingredients. Whisk until well combined.

  3. Using a rubber spatula, pour the mixture into a small saucepan.
  4. Whisk often while simmering on low heat for 3 minutes (or until it starts to bubble). Do not overheat or boil.

  5. Add the slurry mix to the sauce and continue to cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool. Once cool, pour into a jar or container with a sealed lid.

  7. Refrigerate overnight before serving. To serve, warm it up in a small pot.
