Description
Crispy and flavorful Dill Pickle Fries baked to golden perfection, coated with a crunchy Parmesan breadcrumb crust. Perfect as a tangy snack or appetizer, these fries can also be air-fried for a quicker option.
Ingredients
Scale
Pickle Fries
- 24 oz dill pickle spears
Breading Mixture
- 1/2 cup skim milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and set it aside.
- Prepare egg wash: In a medium bowl, whisk together the skim milk and eggs until fully combined for the coating base.
- Mix breadcrumb coating: In a separate bowl, combine the seasoned breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese and mix well for the crisp crust.
- Dry and coat pickles: Pat each pickle spear thoroughly dry with paper towels—this is crucial to help the coating stick. Dip each spear first in the egg and milk mixture, then press into the breadcrumb and cheese mix to fully coat.
- Arrange and bake: Place the coated pickles on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. If you have extra coating and pickles, repeat the breading process. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until the fries are crispy and golden brown.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce, such as a yogurt dill dressing, for a delicious tangy complement.
Notes
- You can use any variety of milk, from skim to whole, or plant-based milk for a dairy-free version. Omit Parmesan or use a vegan alternative if needed.
- Large, shallow bowls or pie plates work best for breading the pickles evenly.
- This recipe can also be made using dill pickle chips; note that cooking time may vary.
- If you have extra breadcrumbs and egg mixture, you can make a second batch if you have more pickle spears.
- For air fryer method: Cook at 400°F for 8 minutes, flip, then cook for another 3-5 minutes until crispy and golden. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in small batches if needed.
