For the Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, sliced into tablespoons, room temperature
- 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
Instructions
- Note: Making caramel requires your full attention. Ensure all ingredients are ready before starting and avoid distractions. Leaving caramel unattended may cause burning.
- Place sugar in a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan with higher sides. Heat over medium-low, stirring often. Sugar will melt into an amber liquid, taking about 7-12 minutes.
- Once amber, add butter and melt. Gradually add heavy cream, stirring. Remove from heat and add cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Stir until smooth.
- Pour caramel into a jar, let cool, and refrigerate. Reheat as needed in 30-second intervals until desired consistency.
