These Homemade Mozzarella Sticks are crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and perfect for dipping in marinara sauce. They make a great appetizer or snack for any occasion.

For the Mozzarella Sticks:
- 12 ounces low moisture mozzarella cheese, cut into pieces 3-inch x 3/4 inch (or 12 oz string cheese cut in half)
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 quart vegetable oil, for frying
For Serving:
- Homemade marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, mix flour with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. In another bowl, beat eggs with water. In a third bowl, combine Panko with Italian seasoning.
- Bread the Cheese: Dip each piece of cheese into the egg mixture, then the flour mixture, back into the egg, and finally into the Panko, pressing gently to coat. Place on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for 45 minutes.
- Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Heat oil in a pot to 350°F. Fry the cheese sticks in batches until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Drain on a rack.
- Serve: Serve the mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature for frying to ensure a crispy exterior.
- Freezing the cheese sticks before frying helps them hold their shape.
