Description

These Quick & Easy Halloween Cauldron Donuts are festive, fun, and perfect for celebrating the spooky season. Baked cake donuts are dipped in rich dark cocoa candy melts and topped with vibrant green candy melts to mimic a bubbling witch’s cauldron. Finished with orange spice drop flames, candy-coated chocolates as bubbles, and pretzel stick handles, these donuts are a delightful and creative Halloween treat.

Ingredients

Baked Cake Donuts

  • Prepared cake donut batter (follow recipe directions for ingredients and preparation)
  • Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Decorations

  • Orange spice drops
  • Candy-coated chocolates
  • Thin pretzel sticks
  • Dark Cocoa Candy Melts, 12 oz
  • Vibrant Green Candy Melts, 12 oz
  • Green Sparkle Gel, 3.5 oz

Instructions

  1. Bake Doughnuts: Prepare the cake donut batter according to the recipe directions. Pour the batter into donut pans and bake as directed. Once baked, allow the donuts to cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Dip Bottom in Candy: Melt the dark cocoa Candy Melts candy according to the package directions until smooth. Using dipping tongs, carefully dip the bottom of each cooled donut into the melted dark cocoa candy. Place the dipped donuts, candy side up, on a parchment-covered board. Chill the donuts in the refrigerator until the candy coating is firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Cover Top with Candy: Flip the donuts so the candy-dipped bottom is down, resting on a cooling grid over a parchment-lined board. Melt the vibrant green Candy Melts candy as needed. Transfer the melted green candy into a small decorating bag with the tip cut. Pipe the green candy over the top of each donut, allowing it to drip down the sides to create a bubbling cauldron effect. Gently tap the donuts to smooth the candy and remove excess. Chill again until the green candy is firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Decorate Doughnuts: Pipe green sparkle gel over the green candy tops to add shimmer and enhance the bubbling cauldron look. Sprinkle a little granulated sugar on a parchment-covered board and roll out the orange spice drops to 1/8 inch thickness. Use a medium flame-shaped cookie cutter to cut six flames for each donut. Arrange the spice drop flames underneath each donut to simulate fire. Place candy-coated chocolates in the center hole of each donut to imitate bubbles. Insert a thin pretzel stick into the side as a handle to complete the cauldron look.

Notes

  • Ensure donuts are fully cooled before dipping in candy melts to prevent melting and uneven coating.
  • Use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking during candy melt work.
  • Green sparkle gel adds a festive shine; if unavailable, green sanding sugar or edible glitter may be substituted.
  • The orange spice drops can be substituted with small orange candy or colored fondant if needed.
  • Store the finished donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days for best freshness.
