Description

These Santa Hat Cupcakes are a festive and adorable treat perfect for the holiday season. Easy to make, they feature a classic cupcake base topped with red frosting shaped into a Santa hat, decorated with mini marshmallows to mimic the white trim and pom-pom. A delightful combination of fun and flavor, ideal for holiday parties or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcakes

  • 12 cupcakes, any flavor (white or chocolate recommended)

Frosting and Decoration

  • Red frosting, enough to frost 12 cupcakes
  • Mini marshmallows, halved (approximately 24-36 halves)
  • Wilton decorating tip #32 (optional)
  • Disposable frosting bag

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marshmallows: Pre-cut mini marshmallows in half so they are ready to use and you don’t have to stop mid-decorating to continue cutting.
  2. Fill Bag and Attach Tip: Attach Wilton decorating tip #32 or a regular round tip to your disposable frosting bag, then fill the bag with red frosting.
  3. Create Frosting Base Ring: Pipe a circular base of red frosting on top of each cupcake to form the bottom rim of the Santa hat.
  4. Add Marshmallow Trim: Place halved mini marshmallows around the red frosting ring to create the white trim of the Santa hat.
  5. Build Up Frosting Hat: Fill in the center of the cupcake inside the marshmallow ring with more red frosting, piping upwards and spiraling to create the cone shape of the Santa hat.
  6. Top with Pom-Pom: Finish each hat by placing a halved mini marshmallow on top as the white pom-pom.
  7. Chill and Set: Place the decorated cupcakes in the refrigerator to let the frosting set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use cupcakes chilled or at room temperature for easier frosting application.
  • Choose cupcake flavors that complement red frosting well, such as vanilla or chocolate.
  • The Wilton decorating tip #32 is optional; a regular round tip or no tip can be used to pipe the frosting.
  • Cut the mini marshmallows carefully and in advance to speed up the decorating process.
  • Store cupcakes in the refrigerator to keep the frosting firm, especially if not served immediately.
