Ingredients
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- Parchment paper (for drying)
Instructions
- Heat Maple Syrup: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, warm 1 cup of pure maple syrup for 1 to 2 minutes. Be careful not to let it get too hot to prevent the cranberries from popping.
- Soak Cranberries: Remove the syrup from heat and stir in 2 cups of fresh cranberries to coat them thoroughly. Cover the mixture and refrigerate it for 8 to 12 hours to allow the flavors to infuse and the syrup to soak into the berries.
- Drain Cranberries: After soaking, drain the cranberries in a colander for about 15 minutes to remove excess syrup.
- Coat with Sugar: Pour 1 cup of sugar into a large bowl or baking dish. Add 4 to 5 cranberries at a time to the sugar, gently tossing them to evenly coat each berry in sugar crystals. Repeat this process until all cranberries are sugar-coated.
- Dry the Cranberries: Place the sugar-coated cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them stand at room temperature until they are completely dry and the sugar has crystallized around the berries.
Notes
- Do not overheat the maple syrup to prevent cranberries from bursting during soaking.
- Allow enough time for soaking and drying to ensure the best texture and flavor.
- These sparkling cranberries can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Great for garnishing cocktails, desserts, or enjoying as a sweet snack.
