Description

This Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix is a deliciously addictive snack blend combining crunchy cereals, pretzels, nuts, and bagel chips coated in a buttery, honeyed, and spicy sauce. Perfect for parties or everyday snacking, this mix offers a perfect balance of sweet heat and savory crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Snack Mix

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (combination of rice, corn, and wheat)
  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup mini pretzel rods
  • 1 cup mini bread sticks
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (almonds, whole cashews, pistachios)
  • 1 cup bagel chips (rye or plain)

Sweet & Spicy Sauce for Seasoning

  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) to prepare for slow baking the snack mix.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together all Chex cereals, mini pretzel twists, mini pretzel rods, mini bread sticks, bagel chips, and mixed nuts.
  3. Prepare the Seasoning Sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add Worcestershire sauce, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder to the melted butter. Whisk thoroughly to combine all ingredients into a smooth sauce.
  4. Coat the Snack Mix: Pour the sweet and spicy seasoning sauce over the dry snack mix. Using a spatula, mix well to ensure every piece is evenly coated with the flavorful sauce.
  5. Spread on Baking Tray: Transfer the coated snack mix onto a large baking tray. Spread the mix into one even layer to ensure consistent baking.
  6. Bake: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Stir the mix periodically if desired to ensure even crispiness, baking until the snack mix is crispy and golden.
  7. Cool and Store: Remove the baking tray from the oven and let the snack mix cool completely on the tray. Once cooled, serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Mixing different types of Chex cereals adds varied texture and flavor.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper and chili powder to control the spice level.
  • Baking at a low temperature for a long time helps the mix get crispy without burning.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep the snack mix fresh and crunchy.
  • You can add other nuts or seeds based on preference or dietary needs.
